Violet was born and raised in Lansing, Michigan. She met and married her husband Richard Freeland while attending Michigan State University.

Violet did private mentoring with highly sought-after instructor, Timothy Widener, for three years while also studying at the Flint Institute of Art.

Freeland is an award-winning artist, proficient in both watercolor and oil. She has been featured in private exhibitions and has exhibited in gallerys in Chicago, IL, Traverse City, MI, Sutton’s Bay, MI, and East Lansing, MI. Though her recent focus is oil abstracts, Violet has attained notable success in the art of portraits, landscapes and still-lifes. She is passionate about creating beauty, believing that it is essential to the human spirit, not merely a luxury, but significant in it’s ability to inspire, uplift, encourage, give hope, pleasure and joy. Much good comes from studying, but Freeland also believes her ability is a gift from God which brings with it humility and responsibility.

Violet and Richard currently reside in East Lansing, MI. They have two children and four grandchildren.
